Maths and Art

Event Description: Maths and art workshops, enriching the curriculum for higher attaining pupils at KS2.

Inspired by the work of the sculptor Simon Thomas these workshops are designed to stimulate imaginations and excite children and teachers alike!

Workshop outline:

In the morning, you will investigate polygons and polyhedrons and then combine mathematical and artistic ability to create your own ‘free’ sculptures.

In the afternoon, you explore how to create mathematical models based on percentage changes.

The day will focus on developing geometric reasoning alongside calculating with decimals and percentages, and applying estimating and measuring skills.

Aims/Objectives: “Pupils should make rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. They should also apply their mathematical knowledge to science and other subjects.”
